Alpha E-Tec Combi Boilers

The average cost of the Alpha E-Tec Combi Boiler is between £689.00 and £729.00, which includes VAT and excludes installation.

Alpha-E-tec

Lightweight and straightforward to operate, the Alpha E-Tec Combi is a wall mounted gas condensing combination boiler that comes in two outputs of 28kW and 33kW to meet the needs of different homes.

This model is said to be Alpha’s smallest combi yet and is even suitable for kitchen cupboard installation, thanks to its compact dimensions that measure 712mm (H) x 440mm (W) x 255mm (D). As the boiler uses the mains water supply to provide both heating and hot water on demand, you won’t need to use separate tanks or cylinders with this appliance.

The boiler comes with a 5-year warranty and has an affordable price tag, with purchase costs ranging between around £689.00 and £729.00.

Boiler Energy Efficiency Credentials

With a seasonal room heating yield of 93% and hot water production yield of 87%, the E-Tec Combi has an A rated energy efficiency status. It features a highly efficient Grundfos pump to help maximise efficiency and reduce running costs. The boiler also has a Class 6 NOx rating and is compatible with OpenTherm technology to enable you to use the boiler with the latest energy saving controls.

E-Tec Combi Technology and Main Advantages

This model by Alpha boasts a range of features and benefits including a heat exchanger with wide waterways and a high efficiency Grundfos pump, both of which help to ensure a constant supply of hot water is always available. The boiler also allows for easy front access to all of the components, helping to keep servicing and maintenance costs low.

The range includes two output sizes with different maximum hot water flow rates, which are as follows:

  • E-Tec 28kW Combi – 12.1 litres per minute
  • E-Tec 33kW Combi – 14.1 litres per minute

Alpha’s E-Tec Combi has a backlit LCD display and push-button controls to make operation and changing temperatures hassle-free for the end-user. If you wish, you can purchase an optional weather compensation probe that is designed to improve efficiency by adjusting the boiler’s output according to outside temperatures.

Is the Alpha E-Tec Combi the Right Boiler Type and Size for Your Home?

Since there are two outputs available and the boiler is capable of delivering either 12.1 or 14.1 litres of hot water per minute, the E-Tec Combi is suitable for small to medium-sized properties. It’s also ideal for apartments and houses with limited storage space because it doesn’t require bulky tanks or cylinders. As a general rule, the 28kW unit is for smaller dwellings and the 33kW version is best suited to medium homes. However, this is only a rough guide, and you must ask a Gas Safe engineer to take a look at your property and assess your heating and hot water habits before you purchase a new boiler.

Our Honest Opinion of the Alpha E-Tec Combi

The Alpha E-Tec Combi is an appealing option for a variety of reasons, such as its compact size, industry-leading Grundfos pump, generous warranty and low up-front cost. This model is also very easy to install and service, so you should save money on installation and maintenance as well.

There is a downside though. According to Which?, Alpha boilers are not the most liked units out there, with many owners and engineers complaining about reliability and build quality. The Eco-Tec Combi is, however, a competitively priced boiler from a UK brand – so your engineer won’t have any trouble getting hold of spare parts. And remember, it does come with 5 years of cover (which is quite generous for a budget boiler) in case any repairs need to be carried out in the future.
